The Video Platform Offers Viewers Control to Limit Artificial Intelligence-Made Content in Personal Streams

Users will soon have a updated setting that enables them to lessen the quantity of AI-made videos appearing in their feeds. This move comes as the company disclosed that it now features over 1 thousand million AI videos.

Pilot Phase and Launch

The new functionality is in a pilot phase over the following weeks before a global launch. This development coincides with a surge in AI content, fueled by recent AI video creators.

AI Proliferation Online

Studies have shown that nearly one in 10 of the quickest rising content creators on another major platform exclusively feature AI-generated videos. A significant portion of this content is deemed mass-produced AI material, a phrase for substandard, bulk-generated content that is typically illogical or bizarre.

Our research shows that many people appreciate content created using AI tools, from AI artwork to informative clips, and we intend to offer the community the ability to adjust the amount of that, according to their own preferences,” commented a company executive.

AI on the Platform

The platform announced that there are currently 1.3 billion videos on its app identified as made with AI. In total, over 100 million videos are submitted to the service every day, making clips made by AI a relatively small part of its overall inventory.

Customizing Your Feed

Users will be capable of limit or boost the level of AI content they view by accessing the topic control option in the app and choosing AI-made media. Other topics that can already be adjusted under the filter include politics, fashion, aesthetics, and dance.

Content Labeling and Policies

The platform’s policies mandate creators to identify “realistic” AI-made content, and it bans malicious AI impersonations of public figures or crisis events. Any believable AI video that is without a tag can be deleted under its community policies.

Furthermore, the platform will now apply an artificially created label to content produced via its proprietary AI systems, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for spotting artificial media. This action is designed to deter users from attempting to circumvent the labeling process.

Responsible AI Funding

The platform is also introducing a $2 million educational fund for specialists and groups to produce informative material about using AI responsibly. This initiative will support educational bodies dedicated to teaching computer science.

Moderation Strategy

The video-sharing app has supported its safety measures, during controversy over intentions to lay off hundreds of content moderators in the United Kingdom. TikTok is planning to reduce hundreds of positions in its content moderation department in its British office, with trade unions and internet security professionals voicing alarm that staff are being displaced by automated systems.

A trust and safety lead clarified that staff-based oversight would continue to be important, but artificial intelligence can safeguard staff by removing the most graphic content before it has to be seen by people. TikTok stated a notable drop in disturbing and violent content handled by content reviewers over the past year due to the use of its AI tools.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate people and machines to ensure user safety,” the official commented. “We’ll have staff as involved in the system, but we additionally believe it’s extremely critical to minimize viewing of unsafe media as swiftly, which is where a lot of the machine support is really helping us work at speed.”
